Genealogy of the Lanoues

REFERENCES:

The data base for the first generations through the 6 th generation include: " Le Grand Arrangement
des Acadiens au Quebec" from Dr. Adrien Bergeron, the "Histoire genealogique des Acadiens" de
Bona Arsenault, from Drouin, plus important genealogist studies. These three sources formed a good
base to continue my research. There is also Tanguay volumes.
I visited many parishes and obtained from registers any and all information pertaining to the Lanoue
name. I checked all the civil registers in Bibliotheque Centrale in Montreal and Les Archives nationales
in Quebec, Montreal, Sherbrooke and Ottawa. I visited cemeteries in areas where any Lanoue could
have lived in Quebec province, in Vermont, New-York and two cemeteries in Massachusetts. Many
parishes did not have registers available in areas where we could have access to them. Many people assisted my research by providing pertinent family information in the form of messages, telephone
and by word of mouth. However, verbal contributions based on memory can be helpful but it is always
more convincing when the information is in document form. Dates appearing in official registers are
always prefered over any information given from memory. Unfortunately, in many instances, written evidence is not available and verbal contributions have to be accepted as a starting base researching continues for documented evidence.

Pierre Lanoue (1643-1714) Born 1643. His father passed away before his birth. Originally from France he came to Acadia around 1668. In 1681 in Port-Royal, married Jeanne Gautrot, daughter of François Gautrot and Edmée Lejeune. Later, he returned to France where his son Pierre was born in Dol in Bretany in 1683. In 1693, he returned to Acadia. Census showed that he was 45 years of age. (He preferred not to give his age). He was cooper. His son was ten years old. He was involved in trading by boat between Acadia and Boston. Deceased around 1714. His wife was born in 1664 and was interred in Port-Royal on 19 October 1749 at the age of 85.

Pierre Lanoue (1683-1754) Born 21 November in Dol, Bretany. On 21 November 1702, married Marie Granger in Port-Royal born in 1680, daughter of Laurent et Marie Landry. Deceased in Lorembec, Cap Breton 15 January. He was probably half farmer half fisherman. Marie probably went in exile with one of their sons.

Joseph Lanoue (1703-1782) Born 4 October. On 16 October 1725 in Port-Royal married Marguerite Beliveau, daughter of Charles and Marie Melanson. In 1755, he was deported with his family to New England. We found him in Laprairie, Quebec, September 1772. Deceased in St-Philippe 28 April 1782.

Pierre Lanoue (1706-1772) Born 4 January in Port-Royal. In 1730 in Mines, first marriage to Françoise Thibodeau, daughter of Pierre and Anne-Marie Bourg in Pissiquit. Born 26 September 1708. On 4 November 1737 in Port Royal 2o marriage with Anne Béliveau, daughter of Charles and Marie Melançon, born 3 June 1717. Deceased 29 February 1752. As widower was deported to New England in 1755. He arrived in Assomption, Quebec, in 1767. Passed away suddenly in St-Jacques de l'Achigan, Quebec
where he had settled after his exile. Present: Pierre Lanoue and Marin Granger.

Charles Lanoue (1709- ) Born in February 4. On 12 June 1729 in Grand Pre, married Marie Landry, daughter of Charles and Catherine Brossard. Deported in England.

René Lanoue (1710-1751) Born 3 December 1710. Deceased in Port-Royal in 1751. On 8 January 1732 married Marguerite Richard daughter of Michel and Agnès Bourgeois in Grand-Pre. His widow was deported in South Carolina with some of her children: Jean-Baptiste, Basile, François. She and François died from the disease smallpox on Vanderhost's Plantation, Charleston in 1756 leaving Jean Baptiste and Basile who where raised in Protestant faith and changed their name to Lanneau.

Marriage was rehabilitated in Laprairie, Quebec after exile on 10 September 1772 with dispense from 2 to 3 0 degree of consanguinity. Interred 26 March 1782 in St.Philippe de Laprairie at the age of 55. He was the son of Claude and Jeanne Guillebault. Present were: Joseph- father, son Joseph and Charles Granger.

Came from exile, settled in St, Philippe where Ursule, born 25 July 1724, passed away 10 July 1783 at the
age of 59. Remarried to Marie Hebert 28 July 1788, the widow of François Landry in St Jacques de l'Achigan, Quebec. Present were: Sons Jean and Pierre, son-in-law Olivier Hébert, and nephew Charles Lanoue. Died 5, buried 7 April 1817 in L'Acadie, Québec

Michel Poncy Lanoue (1736-1809) Born 2 April, deported to New England where he married civil
Madeleine Brun on 26 January 1761. After his return from exile, the marriage was rehabilitated in
Laprairie, Quebec on 6 November 1774. Daughter of Antoine et Françoise Comeau, died 1 and buried 2
June 1791, aged about 55, in L’Acadie. Him died 2, buried 4 May 1809 in L’Acadie.

His land situated near a creek in St-Jacques, was next to the land of Louis Fontaine. Deceased 6 November 1820 S.7.in St. Jacques, Quebec. Present were: His sons Pierre and Joseph.

Amand. His wife, who was protestant at the time, converted to Catholicism in Ste-Marys' Bay, 9 February 1800. She was close to 50 years of age. Married around 1766. Deceased around 1793.

Basile Lanoue (1746-1833) Born 13 November. Deported to South Carolina in 1755. His first wife,
Suzanne Frizelle and their five children died in an epidemic prior to 1790. On 23 July 1793, he adopted Pierre and Sarah, his brother Pierre’s children. Remarried 27 October 1796 to Hannah Vinyard. He was
a Deputy in the Legislature in 1796, 1798,and 1802. Basile became one of the most influential citizens
of the state and was the ancestor of a large lineage. Deceased in Charleston, South Carolina 9 November 1833.

James. She was born in 1752 deceased 22 January 1821. His descendants changed the name to
Lanoux. He had twenty-four slaves.
